painted from memory
what an amazingly immersive experience. A.Cuaron takes us back to his childhood in the Roma district of Mexico City. Alone he places Cleo, the servant in the central position. Some childhood tragedies and fond memories are interwoven in the slow narration. Cinematography (from master Cuaron himself, but also the film's sound design is a genuine masterpieces. The film needs to be viewed over and over again to appreciate all the intricate details. Somehow the direction and camera movements reminded me of Ingmar Bergman's semi autobiographic film Fanny & Alexander. Highly recommended and another great achievement by Criterion BRAVO

Iives up to its hype (for me at least)...
I can see why this film has a mixed review as it’s narrative is unforced (and is not exclusively on Cleo).I found it incredibly powerful and found Yalitza Aparicio’s performance wonderful (I particularly liked the interplay between nanny and children). My heart ached for her.I found the second disc very informative (finding out that Yalitza didn’t know the outcome of the delivery, how Cuarón’s personal history informed the film, the methodology for the travelling through the widescreen frame and the explanation for the clear digital format)

Roma : Should Have Won The Best Film Oscar
A wonderful film, great story, beautifully filmed. Much better than Oscar winner Green Book in my opinion. Great Blu Ray picture, extras and packaging, courtesy of Criterion. To me, this is an awesome film, though I can understand why others may feel differently.

An astonishing film and a brilliant Criterion presentation
One of the best films of all time. And a brilliant transfer from Criterion. It's not presented in 4K but the very high bitrate means amazing picture quality even at Full HD. And the Atmos audio track is just something else.

Great Film Experience
Didn't know what to expect but truly love this film. If, like me you baulk at the price, fair enough. I love cinema and this is truly in my opinion, great cinema!

Mundane and overrated
We started watching with high hopes, having read some very favourable reviews, but found little of interest in it - especially when compared with many of the great atmospheric films which it seeks to emulate. The story should have had enough in it but, for us, it lacked depth of feeling - even for the central character (Cleo - the family's maid). Also we struggled to find anything especially creative in story and script, and wanted more cinematography which might have enhanced it. It slightly resembles work by Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Isabel Allende but doesn't come close to matching either. Disappointed (Even a waste of money).
