It works, it's like magic! Turned my portable AC/Heater unit into a smart device!
This device turned my AC unit into a smart device that I can control from my phone. The remote my AC/Heater unit came with barely worked, like it wouldn't sync up with the unit showing a different temperature than the unit did and even when pointing it right at the front of the unit wouldn't always work, and with fresh batteries. This $20 device solved the issue!*My specific unit doesn't report back the temperate though, so I can control it with this device but not see what it's set at. I added a cheap camera to show me the display so I can be extra lazy and set the proper temperature from bed all on my phone.

Product has extremely limited support capability, and extremely limited integration.
Something you should know right away is that this product will probably not work with your device. There is a significant lack of devices available in this product library, and in the smart things app. That's right, if you don't like using smart things, you're going to have a bad time, because that's the app this thing uses. And if you own any CCH appliance, which is one of the most common freestanding air conditioners in america, often sold under the brand global air, this device will not have a built-in remote system for it. And any device it does not have a built-in remote system for, it cannot be integrated into Alexa or into Google home. Which makes it borderline useless. The manufacturer has made no indication that they intend to correct this, and tell you to simply train the device using the existing remote, if you still have it, which again, will not work with home integration.Don't waste your money. This thing is built on false promises and incredibly flimsy support.EDIT: Adding to this to mention that I have since updated my portable AC unit to a new model...Smart IR has updated NONE of its remote definitions and codes in that time. Which means that you STILL have to set this up with a DIY type remote, which means it STILL will not integrate with smart home applications.Do not trust this company. It has been over a YEAR since the company promised to continue supporting and updating this device over time. In that time, literally nothing has been updated. Never, ever, EVER give this person or this company your money. They do not deserve it, and at this rate, they deserve to be investigated as nothing but a common criminal.Amazon should be removing their storefronts based on their near constant lies. The system could have been fixed from day one by just detecting the remote code used for a power-on by the remote given for "Training" the DIY, and cross-referencing that power on code against existing remote codes in the database. Instead, they've sat on their ass, done nothing, and continued to sell their lies.No company who lies with such impunity should be allowed to operate, and no person who lies with such impunity as a "salesman" should be allowed to walk free.

Does what it is supposed to.
My wife thought I was crazy for buying and installing this. But it works good. Programming it was a bit of a pain, but I like that I don't need extra remotes for stuff. Plus you can program Alexa do do certain things. It is a bit limited, but I can now tell her "bedtime" and she has the remote control shut down the TV, Dish, surround sound and living room light.

Documentation isn't great, but it worked as described.
This took several attempts to pair with my WiFi network. Overall, the documentation is poor. For example, some instructions on how to use the app didn't exactly match what was actually in the app. I had to program the device with an existing remote, and that worked well.At the end of the day, it works and does what I need, but setting it up was more difficult than necessary.

Extremely happy with it after a year of use.
Fairly simple setup if you're familiar with smart phone apps and Alexa configuration. It has seemingly hundreds of different "profiles" that correspond to different TVs. The profiles map different infrared codes to different functions on the tv (IE: power on, power off, volume up, volume down, channel up, channel down, input, etc). However, after testing close to 50 profiles (very easy to swipe through profiles) I could not find one that was a perfect match that mapped all functions.I was however able to find a profile that was definitely close enough for my needs. All I wanted was to be able to control power and volume for my tv - and it works like a charm. It even lets me use specific commands like "Alexa, turn up the tv by 5" and it will increase the volume by 5. Pretty sweet. In my case, the device does not even need “line of sight” to the TV. It works great even tucked away in a corner. I assume the infrared signal is bouncing off of the walls or something.I don't like big, bulky remotes that look ugly, take endless batteries, and are easy to lose - so I went with this and am not disappointed. My only gripe is the general gripe with practically all "universal remote" products where mapping specific functions is always difficult - but that is more a criticism of the circumstances of the technology and not at all a criticism of this particular product. This product seems about as good as it could possibly be.

What was the thought process here?
Who's idea was it to just not include any English instructions whatsoever? I bought 3 and they all lack comprehensible instructions. How do I even edit the remote after adding a item? I'd know if I could read the instructions.....
