Wenn man von Diabetes betroffen ist, ist meiner Meinung nach dieses Buch ein Muss. Auf aktuellem Stand regt Keith nicht nur zum Nachdenken an, wie Diabetes seit den 70ern behandelt wird, er widerlegt Aussagen und Standards und das auf Basis aktueller Studien, Quellen, aber vor allem auch eigener Erfahrungen. Neben Dr. Beckman eben ein Arzt, der selbst Betroffener ist. Wer Leistungssport mit Diabetes betreibt kommt um die Inhalte und Erfahrungen dieses Buches nicht herum. Wir hatten auch direkten Austausch mit Keith und ziehen das Coachingangebot in ernsthafte Erwägung. Inhaltlich und menschlich einwandfrei. Neben Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetic Solution" gehört gerade dieses Buch in das Pflichtprogramm heutiger Diabetesärzte, um diese zumindest zum Nachdenken anzuregen, das ihnen vermittelte Wissen in manchen Teilen in Frage zu stellen und sich so auch auf andere Wege einzulassen, um Prävention statt Symptombehandlung zu betreiben.

This is a self published book which looks like a poorly formatted and poorly written high school paper. It reads like one too. The book gives the impression that the author tried to limit the total number of pages to save money on printing. Margins are pretty much nonexistent. There are no spaces around the section headlines. There are multiple paragraphs that are 2 pages long. Table captions are printed in the same size font like the rest of the test making them impossible to distinguish. As for the tables themselves, when they don't fit, you may find the first half of the first line in the first row followed by the first half of the second row and then followed by the second half of the first row. The book has no index which one would fully expect in a book covering such an important topic.This is not a book for a person new to diabetes. The author talks about many diabetes terms before explaining them or before he makes important connections so the reader can understand their importance. The explanations sometimes come later, sometimes not at all. They are often quite shallow or go into a great detail a regular reader is unlikely to care about. Some of the important subjects are barely covered (while listed in contents). There is no advice on how to determine the dosage for basal insulin, just what a basal insulin is and a list of different insulin brands - not even half a page. How to gain more weight? That's addressed in 6 lines. Important thing to add is that the book is based on the author's experience only. He didn't work as an endocrinologist treating diabetes in others.I am giving this book 3 stars only because it includes references to many studies and advocates a low carbohydrate diet, but I would recommend you stick with Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution instead. I personally will return this book.

I’m a T1 and have read Dr. Bernstein’s book from beginning to end more than a few times. I think this book is even better. Not because of the information contained in the book (Dr. Bernstein definitely knows his stuff and both books offer a very similar approach to diabetes management —both T1 and T2—) but mostly because this book is better organized and cited.Thank you Dr. Runyan.
