Design a Better Business: New Tools, Skills, and Mindset for Strategy and Innovation Paperback – September 13, 2016

It should come as no surprise that the DBB book is very well designed and presented. It's beautiful. But just like Branding itself, there has to be some substantial defendable underlying value first, only then does a great branding performs very well.I doubt that I represent the intended customer since I develop strategy tools myself and purchased the DBB book for research purposes. I started reading the book and was prepared to be overwhelmed with tons of tools that will add noise instead of clarity... a typical magazine reading experience. I was totally wrong!The book was surprisingly well balanced not overwhelming. I am an advocate of visuals especially when they add value by simplifying, explaining, and drawing the eyes attention... but maybe it was a tad more distracting that it should've been in some instances. The value of the visuals while explaining the tools, process, concepts, & interviews were spot on, but less so with the whiteboard doodle explainer style. That only makes sense to me in video format. the flow and substance were commendable though.Overall, a great manual and process that points to great tools, just I would recommend using those you need only in order to avoid being overwhelmed. The only thing this book lacks is a better marketing of its original work, the footers indicate that some of the tools were created by the authors. These original works should be celebrated more prominently. Other than that, fix the typos but overall, great job!

I am a Design Strategist that works with clients on strategic planning and business model innovation. I constantly reach for my "Business Model Generation" and "Value Proposition Design" books for ideas and guidance and "Design A Better Business" has proved equally valuable. This book gives me and my team practical tools (such as the Value Proposition Canvas) and exercises (such as Sketching A Prototype) for projects. This book also centers my thinking on business and understanding customers every time that I pick it up. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a practical business and innovation toolkit to guide your work.

This book is designed as a simple and intuitive guide to help you put into use the best tools and processes to design a product, service or business. Their double loop process diagram outlines the design steps and each is clearly explained with many new canvases and examples to help you put the ideas to work for you. I really like how they have included the best work of numerous thought leaders in each section. This is my go to reference book for designing and validating new business ideas.

It is so visually appealing! The tone is very approachable without being so casual that it causing a lack of credibility. This would be something I would highly recommend for anyone thinking of starting a business to save time and money on your idea. (Validate validate validate!). I could also see this of value for those in an established business that is starting to show some slowing in revenue or has an appetite to make fundamental changes to their company DNA and the way they do business.

Design a better business leads the way to the innovation of your business model. It starts with the right mindset, delivers the tools for design and the skills you need to really create something new. We have practiced the tools in this book for four years now and all the companies we have worked with have underwritten the value of designing better business. The book offers the double loop to follow the right steps (again). If you want to stay on top, design a better business. Do it now.

I think this is an excellent reference for tools and techniques to have innovative business discussions. I would highly recommend to any consultant or business person who facilities workshops. The companion website is also very helpful.I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I would have liked to see more examples canvases filled in with real data.
