Good tool but didn't work for what I purchased it for.

I saw a lot of other reviews here claiming this tool was terribly built, and doesn't work for anything bigger than an engine you can fit in the palm of your hand. I disagree. It was quite well built and worked on my other projects, but it's flaw is the inability to compress valves over a significant side wall. I was using it on a 1zz toyota engine, the valve springs are somewhat recessed into the head, and there is what I estimate to be a 1/2 inch of height above the valve spring retainer. The armature reaches around just fine, but the portion that clamps onto the valve spring retainer collides with the gasket surface of the valve cover. I highly recommend you inspect your head to see how recessed the valves are, otherwise this will not work for you. On other small heads for things like hondas, or even larger V8 heads that have raised up valves, this should work fine. Hopefully this review helps you determine whether this will work for you!

It's a great tool for side valve engines.

Good tool for the price.

cheap and not worth the hassle

Cheap made, led to believe it was capable of doing chevy 350 heads, the handle is too short to add the pressure needed, done the 1st spring ok, then the jaws that collapse the spring would just bend and spread, only good for small engines where you don't need any pressure to collapse the spring

Won't work as as supposed to on VW heads

This valve spring compressor won;'t work as supposed on my 1967 VW heads. It's not deep enough and won't compress the springs without hitting the edge of the head. I had to use it in a very unconventional way (closed the gap and rode on top of the retainer , and not around it, as supposed) to get the springs to compress. It's bent one of the prongs right away. Anyway, you get what you pay for.

Did the job

This worked fine doing a valve job on my MG B but like they say “They don’t make them like they used to”Cheaply made and not very sturdy a bit rickety but did the job

Know how to use the tool.

Lubricate the tool well when you receive it lubricate the threads on the plungerDon't try to over compress the springI believe if you know how to correctly use the tool and not abuse it in a hurry everything will be just fineThe rivets are probably not the strongest but if anything happens just drill the rivet out and put a bolt in there and you will never have any more problems remember guys it's $26 if you're building an NHRA dragster than this tool is not for you if you want to do a valve grind job at your house out in the garage this is a great tool you could definitely do a set of heads with this tool if used properly
