I'm always skeptical of mix matching non OEM drive train parts when it comes to the drive trains on my mountain bike builds. I've been using the SRAM GPX oval chainrings since they hopped on the bandwagon. I wanted to get another one, but not for $120. Most aftermarket ovals are also expensive, especially if you're wanting to try oval for the first time and not sure if it's for you.I found these DJC chain rings and for $30 it was a risk I was willing to take without hesitation. All I can say is WOW!!! I'm actually impressed with how well these work compared to the OE SRAM GXP. Not one hiccup while shifting, no chain drop and the timing of the cam rollover is perfect! I've been riding MTB for 30+ years, raced many super-d, DH, enduro platforms and I work on and build all my rides. If you're on the fence about getting this chain ring, get off it, because you're going to be stoked on this affordable chain ring. It's light, rigid and well designed.

Very good quality. Fits perfectly! You can see the design is similar to other oval chain rings at half the price of name brand ones. The first test ride was awesome! This oval chain really does help on the climbs!!!!

Super weak chainring. Thought it was worth a shot being so much cheaper but it bent like cheese on the first small impact.

Sadly, these chainrings aren't going to have the benefit that folks are looking for. When installed, the long axis of the oval in the chainring is perpendicular to the crank arms. This means the "hardest" part of the chainring cycle starts in the middle of the weakest part of the human pedal stroke (when pedals are at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock). The leaders in the elliptical chainring world (Absolute Black and Wolftooth) overcome this by shifting the angles such that the long axis of the chainring is engaged when the crank arms hit ~ 1 o'clock - the start of the most powerful part of the pedal cycle.I would highly recommend these chainrings if it weren't for this issue. Aside from this critical flaw, they are nicely machined and the graphics look great. Hopefully this can be addressed in future versions of the product.
