Logo Beginnings (Multilingual Edition)

1) Taschen books are generally Excellent2) this book is a great resource on the history of logos that already exist, it's not to teach you how to design…With that said, I find the page layout odd!I’ve never seen a design book, about good design, that has the text start so close to the top of each page.It looks like a mistake. The bottom of the layout with page numbers also looks too high. It’s quite distracting. I’m an art director and designer of books and magazines myself and would not let this go to print.Either the print vendor shifted pages too high or the Art Director tried a style that is Not balanced.I can only think that maybe this was done so that the book can be printed smaller without resigning the page layout. Still distracting.Also, Taschen should stop printing their xxl books too small. The text becomes too small and difficult to read. It’s a cheaper price point and that’s good, but their designers should First start with a font size that is easier to read when printed smaller.Again, these books are great and designers should own a copy.Cheers

Ever wonder if a book is worth $60? This one is. It's huge, quality paper, and filled with a century's worth of brilliant design. I was flabbergasted by the size and weight of the amazon box.

This book is incredible and a beautiful compliment to Logo Modernism. The price is a steal for the amount of content and overall quality. Definitely a must have book for any designer. Also, not sure where mine shipped from but it was packed perfectly and came in mint condition. 100% recommended.

This is a large oversized reference book featuring logos from late 19th to mid-20th century. There are thousands of logos organized by category and given the large format, the logos are very legible.Each mark lists the year it was designed/introduced, company name, and country. Rarely it will also list the designer.There is very little text to read so it is mostly a visual reference book/library of marks, all in black and white. There are about 10 logos that are given a 4-page feature. These are full-color pages and have a brief body of text followed by photos and graphics showing the evolution of the logo and various applications.Overall this is a high quality book, and while there are a number of these books that catalog thousand of logos/marks, the oversized format of this one makes it a great reference book. Most logo/brand designers will probably want to have this in their library to flip through from time to time. As far as any useful information/context, there’s not much, it’s just a picture book with page after page of logos.What could be much improved is the featured logos. They should have gone into more detail and made them more into case studies and featured even more than just the 10 or so. It’s a nice book but probably not worth the full list price.
