This receptacle tester is very handy and everyone should have one. It’s the exact same type that inspectors use when they are doing a home inspection on a house that has a pending purchase. There is a convenient chart right on the tester that tells you if the electrical outlet is wired and operating correctly. A larger version of that same chart is also on the back of the package. But what this is really good for is testing your GFCI outlets. You should do that periodically to confirm that those outlets (usually in the kitchen, bathrooms, and garage) continue to operate correctly—that is important safety feature. When I plug this into my GFCI outlets (ground fault circuit interrupter) and press the button on this tester, it “trips” the GFCI outlet and the outlets turn off (proving that the outlet is doing what it is supposed to do). Then you just push the button on the outlet to reset it. Not all testers have that little button to test the GFCI outlets—this one does.We recently moved to a new house and this little tester is also really handy to carry around from room to room when we are trying to figure out which outlet is operated by a wall on/off switch. Yes, you could also carry a lamp around with you to do that—but that is not as convenient as using this tester lol.This is a very handy device. Best value for the money.

I have several socket testers with GFCI testing built-in. This one works flawlessly with bright, distinct, easy-to-see lights and read out codes on top side. It would be 5 stars if it had codes on both sides(sometimes 3-proung outlets are installed with ground above) making it instant to determine without removing the tester to have to turn it over(minor annoyance). Also the light codes use white and yellow indicators as to what is off/on, respectively, and the two lighter colors sometimes make it tough to determine which is which for old eyes or darker situations. White/red or white/black might be easier to determine(also, just a minor annoyance). Otherwise works as advertised and GFCI testing is spot on.

This tester is easy for anyone to use with no electrical skills. I use it to locate problems with like if a ground wire comes off or to check to see that I wired all of my outlets correctly. Good enough to tell you if you have a problem.

The first thing I noticed out of the packaging is there is a loose part in the GFCI tester that rattles around. As for functionality, this tester seems as good as any GB, Klein, walmart brand, etc tester that I've owned. The price is great. I've gone through probably around 6 testers in the last 8 years, people like to borrow them without asking or returning, so I've started buying the inexpensive ones instead. The quality is on par with the more expensive testers I've had, but with the rattling I would give it a 4.5 but the price was right so it gets 5 stars.

Easy to use. And it works

Wish I had known about this item a few weeks ago. It would have saved me $95. Had a bedroom, and half bath with no electricity. The circuit breaker was okay and left me trying to figure out what was wrong. Had a loose connection on a wall receptacle that the electrician found right away with this type of item.
