Printmaking Second Edition: A Complete Guide to Materials & Processes

As someone not new to artmaking, but new to printmaking, I thought this book was very comprehensive regarding the many different types of printmaking. I am particularly drawn to collagraphy and although this isn't necessarily a how-to book, it is more of a guide to get you started, what you should know, and how things work. With printmaking, there are processes and steps and this book goes through the basics in a matter of fact way. I did learn things about printing a plate and setting up the press that I didn't know before I read the book and was surprised that I didn't learn that in a class I took recently.

Excellent guide to a range of printmaking approaches that I have found helpful in reviewing ones I know and in learning new ones. One of the best books out there.

Very thorough book. Explained all my questions about printing. Will be using it as a 'bible' guy for anything printing in future. Really good reference work.

I bought this book as I was interested in a book which gave an overview of different printmaking techniques having taken and enjoyed a dry point class.I can’t fault the work put into this book - credit to the authors. It’s great to look at and gives a lot of history about different techniques. However it’s more of an academic reference than a practical book.Whilst I would be interested in the history and background, my biggest issue is that the language and sentence structure is not easy to read or digest … maybe it’s just me.The wording is eloquent but academic / wordy / flowery / not straightforward - it’s not a book you can skim read or dip in and out of easily. For me it’s way too much effort to read it. The parts I’ve tried to read so far haven’t been helpful.So disappointed as it’s not what I was looking for. It’s not a book for beginners or those with no knowledge of printmaking. I’d categorise it as an academic reference. I am going to return it as it’ll end up being a coffee table / dust gathering book and I already have enough of those.
