Scottish-fairytale themed enemies-to-lovers
Young girls have started to go missing and Jack Tamerlaine has been called back to his home on the enchanted island of Cadence to investigate.Cadence though is an island where the spirits run free, where enchantments are woven using secrets, and where the very geography of the island can change at the whim of its capricious inhabitants. This book was recommended to me at the start of the year and I'm so glad I've finally got around the reading it.The scottish-fairytale-themed setting is just so cosy and atmospheric that you should be reading it curled up under a blanket on a rainy day with a hot cuppa."Enemies-to-lovers" isn't a trope I usually go for and in my mind it made it feel a bit more YA, but thankfully there wasn't any smuttiness to it. The overall themes of the book definitely get a bit darker, though without drawing you out of that cosy bubble.I've given it 5 stars anyway as the Scottish vibe, fairytale setting, and character development / world-building is just great. Cannot wait to read the next one.

A beautiful lyrical tale! I imagine the next will be just as enchanting
My first thought after reading this story is that it has left me with a very gentle and comforting feeling; like that of the beautiful lyrical nature of the older Disney films.I’m usually one that prefers only the main characters point of views but with this story I couldn’t help fully embrace and feel for the ‘side’ characters!Their struggles and mistakes became my own and I would be itching to get back to their point of view— I still am really! The ending brought such bittersweet heartache! The magical elements were enchanting.I loved how the spirits presented themselves and are woven deeply within the characters, their lives and their home.I loved the lessons with faith, pain , losing trust, healing, stronger sense of self/family units.I loved that I could paint a picture of the environments to mind! Which is unheard of for me usually!I’m intrigued to see how this story evolves further in the next book!

Unsure how I feel to be honest
I’m not sure what I’m truly feeling about this book. Everyone on tiktok is raving about it and reviewing it as an amazing book. And In some ways it is and in other ways it seemed to fail to hit the mark for me. I found the first half of the book slow, and difficult to get through to the point I had to cease reading and read another book first before continuing with this one. Not to say this book was bad. Because it wasn’t. It was an idea and a plot I had never read before and in its own way, it was beautiful. The second half of the book definitely had me more gripped and enthralled. Especially because I had already figured out where the author was going with the storyline of the main characters and their heritage. The romance between Adaira and Jack touched my heart too. It wasn’t overdone like in other books. It was children turning into adults and realising what had been there infront of them all this time. And it was just beautiful. I am definitely interested and intrigued for when the second book comes out as I feel like it will be a lot more exciting to read now that the storyline is taking off. Whereas I feel like this book was more to set the scene and give some historical background to where this story could go.

3,5/4 stars because there is a second book
After having finished reading the book, i still didn't know there was a second book. The end of the book is really sad and i freaked out because the story itself, the creativity, the concept of the book is amazing. I love the bard concept, the generality of the characters are very well written, the universe of the book as well. I specially love Jack and Adaira, Torin and Sidra, Jack's sister, even the spirits are very well written, but the end of the book was so sad. I love happy endings and this was not a happy ending, but we have a second book so i will read it of course, because i hope to see the ending that Adaira and Jack deserve, their love for each other is very credible and strong, i love the chemistry between them, so i hope all ends well for them ;)

A River Enchanted stole my heart
A River Enchanted stole my heart on my first read in the spring and it has done so once again. It has become one of my very favourite books. The isle of Cadence is wondrous and I love the Scottish roots and folklore, so believable it could almost be historical fiction. Rebecca Ross' beautiful writing is lyrical and poetical. All of her other books have gone straight on my wishlist! Music, magic and the spirits create such a vivid world that I wish I could visit.Ross skilfully weaves heartfelt, heart-rending storylines with her wonderful array of unique characters. I have taken them all to heart and am desperate to see where their lives head next. I am thrilled to start the second part in the duology, A Fire Endless.

I WAS enchanted by A River Enchanted
My 20-year-old niece recommended this book to me thinking that I might like it...she said it was so well-written and said about the book and author, "The writing is so beautiful...she has an elegant way of writing where you feel so much emotion in her words." To be honest, I don't usually read this genre, but I thought I'd give it a try if my niece felt this strongly about it.I was so happy that I did. I read this book in three evenings, loved every page. It is lyrical and the descriptions are stunning. The story truly comes to life.As soon as I finished it, I purchased the next in the series, A Fire Endless. Can't wait to begin the continuation of the Cadance series tonight.I highly recommend this author and this book. She's an excellent storyteller.
