Really not for 8 year olds
A fun little toy--I'm an experienced RC sailplane pilot, but found it a 'new' flying experience. A friend of mine bought one, so I had to jump in, too. We found that it required some nose weight--we added some BB's to the head to glide level. The white face on the eagle can be carefully removed and the BBs placed inside. What's different from a 'conventional' RC aircraft is that the steering is controlled by the the two motors--one in each wing, steering is accomplished by differential motor thrust. With throttle off, a motor will turn on when the L/R joystick is moved. There is no elevator or rudder/ailerons. Under full power, the bird will climb very steeply. Back off and it will maintain level flight or descend. In even a light headwind the bird won't make much headway, so be prepared to chase after it if the wind speed increases. For that reason, I recommend you find a large field to fly it in. The bird is reasonably rugged, as it is made from a somewhat 'rubbery' foam material that is a bit bouncy. But do fly over grass--not pavement--or the bird will eventually get its feathers ruffled on hard surfaces. The box says 'Ages 8+', but I seriously believe a kid that young won't have the coordination to control it well before they break it. But then, us 'Ages 70+' might have similar issues. A cute little toy that I didn't mind throwing away 30 bucks for!

Durable and easy to fly
Really easy to fly, except for windy days. Got stuck in the neighbors tree for over a month . When it finally fell down he brought it over and it still works just fine. The propellers don’t just fall off like front mounted ones.

Challenging but very fun not for the weak hearted
Not a beginner toyI've been flying RC for 56 years. I use the Eagle to play around with the squirrels in my yard. ANY wind makes this model a major challenge to fly. It needs zero wind, a giant yard with no instructions or especially trees. To learn to fly out go to the biggest barest yard you can find, with no wind. No elevator you must use throttle to climb or go down. It turns well. Wind will frustrate you. But very fun and the squirrels run!

Add 1.5" by 1.5" tale trim to center of tail feathers, for flight stability
This is a fun yet poorly designed product for even experiened RC pilots to operate, let alone for kids, who would find it impossible to fly without crashing continually. The horizontal shape of the eagle's tail is cupped downward ward slightly in the middle, causing it to rock back and forth, then dip and rise severely, during flight. This makes it impossible to fly in a smooth, normal, raptor-like soaring pattern. We fixed this tail issue by cutting a 1.5" by 1.5" piece from a 3x5 card, thenattached it horizontally to the center of the tail "feathers", using folded shipping tape. This additional piece should not flap or move. It should be horizontal, flat and rigid between the rear tail "feathers". This essentially creates an additional longer and wider middle tail section, adding stability properties much like adding a tail does on a kite. It also vastly improves flight stability in windy conditions. Technically, you could call it a flight "trim tab." Amazing, immediate improvement followed. Flight became smooth and stable after the addition of the "trim tab". Hopefully the manufacturer will add a 1.5" square, rigid horizontal trim tab section of flat "feathers" to the next update of this RC product, so the product can actually be flown successfully for the duration of it's battery life, rather than crashing continually due to its poor aerodynamic design.

My grandson loves this toy!
Fun toy!

Not worth it
Bought it for my grandson for Christmas. Lasted an hour before breaking. The control to make it go up wouldn't work properly. Had to throw it in order for it to fly the two times it did before falling and breaking in two

great for kids
I bought one of these for my 10 year old grandson. He found it very easy to fly and the material it is made of is very forgiving. His little brother ran over part of it with a scooter and a little hot glue fixed it easily. The little brother ( age 8) is less adept at handling remote control planes but he tried this one and had no difficulty. So I bought a second one for the 8 year old. Good remote control plane for kids.
