Small and Mighty
Backpacker here. I look for light weight, effective, an ability to solve several problems, and for battery operated items - long life, quick charging, and low mAh. We have multiple tools to keep charged so nothing that goes in my pack or on my body can be power greedy. This is my second Nitecore NU25. I found myself using my first one so much - both on and off the trail - that I bought a second one for my hiking partner.Safe to say I’m a fan.The red light lowest setting is perfect for tent activities. I’ve hiked into the night hours with that same setting, but find that the second power setting give me a better picture on unfamiliar trails. I can pick up rocks and roots, keep from getting my eye poked out with a branch, and avoid nighttime spider webs that always seem perfectly set up to catch unsuspecting hikers in the face. Orb weaver anyone?I know we shouldn’t be hiking around at night, but it happens sometimes. This light has gotten me out of some nighttime jams.It excels for use around camp and anywhere else you want a headlamp. I don’t need solar flare strength lights for most of what we do. The options in this light are just right for everything that needs doing. The battery life seems ample - as I’ve never run it out to zero. It charges surprisingly fast and is good to go quickly. I think it sips about 300 mAh, leaving plenty for other items. The light can be removed from its strap and sewed directly into your favorite wool cap for lighter cool weather trekking. The strap on my first one has stretched a bit over these last could of years, but I can still snug it up when I need to.I’ve avoided rechargeable lights in the past because I just preferred to carry a few extra batteries, but this light changed my mind of light that. It’s been reliable and a good tool for managing the moon side of the world.

Great headlamp for running. Not the brightest but is lightweight and rechargeable
This is a great head lamp for what I imagine would be a variety of activities in the dark. For context, I was looking for a head lamp specifically for when I go out running in the afternoons. Because I run in my neighborhood, I didn’t need something super bright but something bright enough for me to be able to not trip and ensure cars could see me when I cross the street. For that purpose, this light achieved what I wanted and even exceeded expectations with the night vision options, light tilting ability, and the fact that it is rechargeable which was a huge factor for me. Since buying this in early November I have only had to charge it once and it is now mid December and I use this thing weekly on my runs. Very happy with how long the charge lasts. The weight is fantastic as I was worried about running with a brick on my head but this is not the case with this product and I barely notice it is there. The night vision options are great and really enjoy the flashing red option in the early afternoons when it’s not very dark out as it gives me options for how I want to be visible by cars without buying a bunch of different lights. I usually use the second most bright setting for the white light. The dimmest setting seems useless on runs and the super bright setting is nice but found it can drain the battery quickly. Overall very happy and have enjoyed this purchase.

fantastic controls
The headlamp does exactly what you want (provide light) and has reduced all the stuff you don't (having to think about it).The controls are excellent;-Positive clicks with sufficient tension on the lamp tilt, without being loud or requiring excessive effort.-Separate buttons for red and white LED light, no confusion about what will come on.-The lamps starts on the dimmest setting for both lamp colors, reduces accidentally blinding yourself.-You don't have to click up through the brighter settings to get it to turn off!! This is really the best part.I don't particularly care about the weight of the unit. For those who do - while the lamp itself is very light weight, the head band (which is wonderful, comfy and stays put) roughly doubles the carry weight and probably triples the carry volume.I likely will not replace the strap until it fails (which I don't expect to happen for some time) I may remove some of the extra adjustment length.I find the spread and throw distance of the high beam to be sufficient for night hiking/walking/jogging, (carrying it at waist level greatly increases the visual relief of tripping hazards) and generally keep it much dimmer if just working around camp or using it for field work, but it will not replace a tighter beamed flashlight for distance illumination or faster travel (like biking).Overall an excellent headlamp that does everything I expect a headlamp to do, and doesn't do anything to annoy me while in use.
