LCD is fine but uses a different pinout from those in the the example Arduino library. Corrected values are ( LiquidCrystal lcd(8,9,4,5,6,7); . Pin 10 is used for the LCD backlight display. Out of the box I found the display to be too bright,and LED was giving off a lot of heat. I have set pin 10 to PWM with a value of 100 and assembly is running much cooler now.Shield Switches have some weird resistor values. I am getting analogRead values of nothing pushed = 1025, Right = 25, Up = 141, Down =326, Left = 502, Select = 739Three things I don't like are1. poor soldering. the corner mounting holes in the LCD board do not align with those in the shield below. it appears the LCD board is rotated compared to the shield by about 1 degree counter clockwise.2. The contrast pot is almost flush with the top of the LCD which will make installation in a frame difficult. I will probably desolder and move it to the other side of the board.3. Reset button on shield is positioned next to "right" button, so one fat finger press and it's reset.No issues with Mega board so far

It works as expected. You need to include the LiquidCrystal.h and LCDKeypad.h . Use LiquidCrystal lcd(8, 9, 4, 5, 6, 7);in the program to access lcd functions. The "Guess the number" example shows how to use the buttons.

Skip the Uno and get this for your first Arduino! With the LCD keypad, it makes a great starter for anyone looking to get started with Arduino. The documentation could be better, especially for novices.

Worked great. Attached ultrasonic sensor to pin 11. Changed the software to read the keys.

Works as expected, I just used the sample files and it functions well.
