Chlorella is a green unicellular freshwater algae, rich in protein, chlorophyll, nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), and carotenoids such as canthaxanthin, astaxanthin, flavoxanthin, neoxanthin and violaxanthin, as well as vitamins and minerals. Chlorella has been utilized as a food since its discovery in the late 1800s by a Dutch biologist, and according to Dr. Bernard Jensen, modern chlorella is one of the world’s healthiest foods. During the drying process, high-speed fans crash the chlorella cells against each other and against the walls of the drying tanks, and high-frequency sound vibrates the chlorella cells, causing the cell walls to crack but not to collapse. Unlike the usual milling process, which grinds chlorella into small pieces and dissipates many important nutrients, the sound-cracking process creates cells like eggs with cracks on their shells, preserving the nutrients inside the cell walls before consumption, while also making the chlorella fragile enough to fall apart in water. The chlorella in KingChlorella is tested by independent laboratories both in Canada and in the USA to insure it is free of heavy metals and other impurities.
