Q: I've been using for a week with no results. Did it take longer than that for anyone?

Yes, it took about 30 days to completely clear till 4 weeks. Another thing is you can't use any other products until it clears up. Then you have to use it occasionally to keep it at bay. I found my flakes where due to hair products I was using. Try stopping all current products then use only this product for 4 weeks then slowly start adding back one product at a time, then you will find the culprit. Meaning all hair products, including shampoo, conditioners, hairspray, mousse or any other products you put on hair.

Q: Is this as effective as the "red" one with Menthol in it? I have that one, but this one appears more moisturizing, which I prefer.

I went from this adequate dandruff shampoo to walmart's equate version. I found the equate dandruff shampoo about 4 times more effective. never needed anything else, so I wouldn't know about the red stuff.
