Q: How do you play? When does each round stop, if no one plays a pair or hazard card do you keep going around to each player a 2nd time?

Yes, you keep going around until someone reaches the end of the board, or if the stockpile ends. If the latter happens, you all discard your hand. then each person counts the gold cards in the tricks they've collected and moves that many squares on the board. Shuffle the deck and start again, playing until someone reaches the the end.

Q: How does this play with 2 players?

It plays fast with just 2 players. In the instructions, we added a note about two player games: what we found during testing, is that folks liked to extend 2 player games by running their cowboys down and back on the track, 26 points instead of 13. Unless one player is incredibly lucky, this usually ensures that there will be plenty of strategies employed and lots of trick taking!

Q: The directions are vague, how do you win a trick with none special cards? Is it the highest card played after each player plays 1 card?

Just to clarify: "If a player cannot or does not discard a card, the previous player takes the trick." Now the player, the one who did not discard can play any card or cards of their choice. Why would a player not discard? Either the player does not have a playable card, or they are choosing to let the prior player take the trick in order to play a card or cards that would not have been playable otherwise. For example: If player 1 plays a queen, and player 2 has a pair of 10s and a king, player 2 could choose not to play their king (especially if there are no gold cards in the discard pile). Player 1 would take the trick, then player two could now play their pair of 10s and move their cowboy two spaces and take two new cards.
