SHIMANOT610 V-BRAKE FRONT X-TYPE BLACK

I have a slightly odd bike, the SOMA Saga DC (disc and / or cantilever brake). That bike can have Canti and / or disc mixed on the bike. Since I owned front SON generator on rim brake front, I needed Canti up front. They never had any stopping power, almost as if there were no front brakes. Fast forward to today... Installed the Shimano V- Brakes and wow, what a difference! They stop better than the AVID cable disc brake in the rear (although they are pretty good).This is a touring bike and I get into some remote places, so having the brake 'risk' spread around is a good thing... although the Avid and Shimano are both rock solid.A little tricky, but not impossible by any stretch to install them. Just go to YouTube > Park Tools > How to install and adjust V Brakes... and Calvin will walk you through everything. Excellent buy and thank you Shimano for supporting what some might think is an out dated technology (it isn't!).

It's getting tough to find reliable v-brakes anymore now that disc brakes are getting so popular. I replaced the brakes on my OLD mountain bike with these and absolutely love them. The stopping power is incredible and they're very responsive. I bought a second set for my son, and may buy yet another just to keep on hand for when my other son needs an upgrade on his bike.

Good quality brakes. If switching from cantilevers, remember that you may need to swap out your short pull levers for long pull levers.

The brakes are great, what you'd expect from Shimano. The picture is misleading as this is only one set, not both as shown. Not much else to say, they are good brakes, a bit heavy, but that's expected from lower end.

I thought I needed to upgrade to disks on my 2009 vintage 26er. How wrong I was. This is day to my OEM brakes' night. Near-effortless one-finger braking, almost as powerful as the SLX 4-piston hydraulics on my other bike. For $30, I saved myself $300, and almost zero installation headaches. The tiny installation headache came from believing I needed special length studs. You don't. Use your existing, standard length studs, and tighten the nut against the inner bushing. These brakes don't rotate on your studs. Their inner bushing is clamped down by your stud and is non-rotating. The outer bushing rides on the inner, and you have low-friction brakes. If your existing studs have rust or pits or vise-grip marks, it doesn't matter. The inner/outer bushing sets on these calipers are the moving parts.

My new bike came with generic linear pull brakes that were always out of adjustment. I suspected the spring tension on those brakes was wonky and I was right. The Shimano De'ore linear front rim brakes are solid and steady. And they are all metal. The generic brakes had a plastic bushing in the spring/frame mounts...the Shimano brakes were all metal with a substantial spring for tension. The brakes adjusted easily, and don't rub on the wheel now. My bike had Jagwire cables and housings, so I left those on. The brakes pull evenly and snap back quickly.I don't use my brakes very much, but I like them to work when I need them. I also replaced the rear with the same brakes. There is a great difference.I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend these brakes
