requires a little practice.
I bought this mostly for my homebrew beer tins. They are made of a thicker gauge than the food cans and the standard can openers struggle. I was also fed up of replacing the small can openers so often I thought I would by one expensive sturdy can opener that will outlast me. (I'm 70)I did find that the screw clamp didn't secure the base to my old wooden kitchen table, no matter what I did with it. No biggie as I've now screwed it to the table but my kitchen table is a knocked about old thing so it doesn't matter. This being a rental home I'd be concerned about screwing the base to the kitchen work top. I've splashed out for the replacement wheel and blade to future proof it.I Find using this can opener a bit fiddly to get the blade to pierce the can just right but when in place the cans are opened very easily. I think the fiddly experience is more down to me not using it on a daily basis. People in a busier kitchen or cafe / commercial kitchen will soon master it and be happy with it. A good, sturdy, well built product.

This unit is worthy of 5 stars.. so WHY did I give it only 4? Curious ? Read on.
Ok.. here goes. At the rescue charity we run, we open lots of the big 1.8 kg Tuna tins. A normal opener last less than one ( 1) week ! So for years we have used the big commercial openers. Our previous one ( China made ?) died after 2 hard years. So... Amazon to the rescue and we found the Bronzer unit. More expensive ? For sure... but pls remember, you get what you pay for.Made in the UK, (delighted with that) AND spares are available... Yipeee, another plus point. Base plate made of stainless steel... wonderful...that alone is worthy of six stars as all the "cheapos" are just normal metal and rust like hell after a few monts. See the photo. So... why only 4 stars you ask?Simple, the manufacturing tolerances are too large on our unit. That allows the cutter knife to jump out of the cutting track. That should not happen as you will have to reset the knife back into the track. A tiny tiny inconvience and no big deal. But something which quality control at Bronzer should pick up and rectify.I've written to Bronzer via Amazon and will await their feed back. If it is possitive I will re-rate this review, if not it stays at 4 stars. In the meantime... its build like the proverbial brick S'house, works as it should and is only let down by a simple manufacturing tolerance problem. My conclusion.. BUY THE UNIT and use it... the many positive points on this unit far far outway the small problem.PS: Use stainless steel screws to mount the unit on the workservice, if that is possible. Bronzer supplies bolts, will will do fine... but they do not look stainless steel to me. Oh... see the rust lines the NON STAINLESS steel base plate of the previous unit left on the formica worksurface ? Well, with the Bronzer unit.. thats one problem you will not have.Albert
