Universal Design for Learning: Theory and Practice

Great book for both those new to Universal Design for Learning and those who have a working knowledge of it. I find this book is easy to read for both those new to the topic and those that have been around the block. I use it as the required text for the Universal Design for Learning class that I teach in the Masters of Education program and then supplement with additional resources from the CAST website. If you are involved in education or training in anyway this is a great book to add to your toolbox.

Anne Meyer and David Rose were pioneers in creating methods for utilizing technology to enable persons with a variety of disabilities to access learning. Endorsed by the Department of Education, programs developed by their co-founded organization, CAST ( the Center for Applied Special Technology) have been expanded from benefiting a limited constituency to becoming truly beneficial to the larger community of learners. Teachers, social workers, and technology professionals will find this updated resource based on CAST's well-documented work to be readable and applicable to many aspects of education.

This is a clear and thoughtful presentation of the principles of universal design in education. It also practices what it preaches. The electronic version has links to a number of relevant videos and other support information to provide for different ways of understanding the information. A great way to begin a study on this issue.

This book is a great resource for educators at all levels who are interested in learning more about Universal Design for Learning. Information is presented in a straightforward manner. Allows readers to easily implement UDL strategies in the classroom.
